  • TAMU Security Tools

Several utilities and tools have been developed to help TAMU administrators secure their machines and keep campus protected from attacks. These tools include:

    • Firewall.tamu.edu
View current firewall settings for hosts you own
    • Scan.tamu.edu
Perform a vulnerability scan againsts host you own
    • NetSQUID
Information on boxes deployed in residence halls to automatically isolate virus and worm infected machines. This is also now available for campus administrators.

A package of security tools was developed by the CIS Network Group to help provide security for campus administrators. These tools were developed as a result of an attack on the campus network in 1992. The attack and the development of the tools are documented in The TAMU Security Package: An Ongoing Response to Internet Intruders in an Academic Environment.

The tools that were developed include:

    • Drawbridge
      A powerful bridging filter package
    • Tiger
A set of convenient, yet thorough, machine checking programs
    • Netlog
A set of intrusion detection network monitoring programs

These tools are copyrighted but publicly available. They can be downloaded at www.net.tamu.edu/ftp/security/TAMU.
