Appendix A - Terms and Definitions

The following terms which are used in this document are defined to have these meanings:

Aggie BucksThe administrative application for the Student Debit Card System.
APCISAssociate Provost for Computing and Information Services.
APCIS OfficeThe Office of the Associate Provost for Computing and Information Services, the Computing and Information Services, and all sub-units of these organizations.
BPPThe administrative application for processing budget, payroll, and personnel information.
Computer SecurityThose measures, procedures, or controls which provide an acceptable degree of safety of information resources from accidental or intentional disclosure, modification, or destruction.
DataA representation of facts or concepts in an organized manner in order that it may be stored communicated, interpreted, or processed by automated means.
FAMISThe administrative application for processing financial and accounting information.
Generally Accessible Computing ResourceThe computing resources of Texas A&M University available to any faculty, staff, or student at Texas A&M University.
Information ResourcesThe computer hardware, software, data files, and networks at Texas A&M University
LANLocal Area Networks are connected to the Texas A&M University Network and are departmental resources.
LogonidA unique identifier used by the computer system to establish user identification.
Mission Critical Information ResourcesThose information processing resources that have been determined to be essential to Texas A&M University's critical mission and functions.
NOTISThe application for processing library administrative and catalog information.
PasswordA combination of characters used to authenticate a person's identity to a computer system when associated with a logonid.
SIMSThe administrative application for processing student information.
Texas A&M University NetworkThe ethernet, FDDI, fiber optic, token ring, and the port selector portions of the Texas A&M University campus computing networks.
