Departmental networks are a legacy service supported by CIS Networking which provides a single connection from a department-owned infrastructure to the campus network. As organizations move and/or an increase in backbone bandwidth is requested, continued support will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. No additional requests for this service will be approved without a substantial business case by the requesting department and commitment to cover all associated CIS costs.
The CIS Network Group can provide a single connection from the department's LAN to the campus network. Connections of this type will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The one-time cost for this type of connection will depend on the exact situation, but will basically cover the cost of the network equipment needed to connect the department's network to the campus network in a secure and reliable fashion.
The department may purchase their own equipment and do their own wiring provided that it is connected behind a departmental connection. CIS will maintain the departmental connection at no charge to the department, but support for equipment and wiring inside the department is the department's responsibility. If support is requested of the Network Group for internal equipment and wiring and owned by the department, it will be billed at the standard rate for parts and labor.
