Network Connections - FAQ

How do I request a new network connection?

Connection requests are handled through the CIS Network Installations Group. Connection requests can be submitted through a web form at https://cis.tamu.edu/network/ or by sending email to request@tamu.edu. For full information on what is required, please see Making a Connection Request.

How do I move a current network connection?

Normal moves of existing 10BaseT, 100BaseT, or 1000BaseT desktop connections will be charged as shown in the CIS General Computing Rates. Note that an itemized list of existing connections that will be disconnected must be included with the move request before it will be processed.

Cosmetic (as opposed to normal moves) will be billed at time and materials rates. A normal move is one in which the new outlet location is in another room or is necessary because a safety or trip hazard would exist if the old outlet location is used. A cosmetic move is a move for aesthetic purposes within the same room and where the old outlet would be fuctional with an appropriate length patch cable.

To request a move, use the web form at https://cis.tamu.edu/network/ or send mail to request@tamu.edu.

My connection isn't working. How do I report the problem?

Any problems being experienced with the campus network or any requests for assistance using the network should be reported to Help Desk Central at 845-8300 or by sending mail to helpdesk@tamu.edu. These problems will be logged in a tracking system and a CIS support person will contact you to help you resolve your problem.
